ROCKFORD — QuikTrip, a gas station and convenience store with an array of food options from its kitchen, has opened its first location in the city.
QuikTrip opened at 8070 E. State St. last Thursday. The 8,300-square-foot development is across from the future Hard Rock Casino, which is due to open by Labor Day.

The QT kitchen and its convenience store are both open 24 hours. Its menu includes a variety of breakfast burritos, croissants, barbecue sandwiches, tacos, subs, pretzels, pizzas and other grab-and-go options.
QuikTrip is not to be confused with Kwik Trip, a chain of convenience stores headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin. QuikTrip was founded in 1958 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has more than 1,000 stores in 17 states and employs more than 31,000 people, according to its website.

The company also has plans for a second location in south Rockford. City Council members approved a special-use permit in October for a QuikTrip gas station, convenience store and truck stop at 1509 Sandy Hollow Road, which is property owned by First Midwest Group in front of a former Kmart.
“It will be a place for food lovers, offering a full-service kitchen with a diverse menu of freshly prepared, high-quality meals that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences,” the company wrote in its proposal to City Council. “This revitalization will not only beautify the area but also eliminate an eyesore, making it more inviting for residents and visitors alike.”
It’s not clear when construction on that project may begin. Calls to the company this week have not been returned. We’ll provide an update if we hear back.
